A Note of Purpose (The expansion of “Pursuing Wisdom”)

It is clear to me upon my thought,

An element which I have sought.

That the pinnacle of my hopes and dreams,

Is at the heart of my essence and soul it seems.

I can only relate it with analogy:

The language of dreamers, eloquently.

I relate it to the use of a tool,

And when I am finished you’ll think me a fool.

But for those of you who, as I, have sought,

The peace of mind with purpose-filled thought.

And for those of you who have been entangled,

In contradiction with action & emotion strangled.

With determination set to accomplish,

But action fruitless and hope undistinguished.

I ask: do you run the race just as I,

With a wish and a mission reaching up to the sky?

Do you feel like your potential could power the earth,

But the fruit of your efforts diminish your worth?

Then let me relate this lesson to you,

So we both may be strengthened with purpose renewed.

I relate our plight to the use of a song.

Do you remember at all the use of a song?

Do you recall in youth owning a track,

Of music or songs that would instantly enact,

An emotion or thought that filled a void,

The world couldn’t accomplish, no words could employ.

Whether joy or anger; discovery or malaise,

The music would connect, bringing clarity amidst haze.

And maybe for some that moment was brief,

And for others it would bring a lasting relief.

But note the exception. Behold the unique,

Unlike other facets you occasionally seek.

There’s a connection, a moment, a feeling, a flow;

Despite impending chaos you were able to “Let go”.

I assure you the power lies not in the notes.

‘Tis internal foundation that revives the hope.

For the circumstance was variable and the faces would change,

But the pressure valve within has always remained,

Beside your heart always close to you,

The choice of your attitude in plain view.

So why can’t I change if the answer so clear,

Truth lies in the example of the music you’d hear.

You see, the music meant nothing: T’was the connection, the flow;

That relieved your heart of burden and woe.

So what then now? Should I search for a song,

That will give me purpose and that which I long.

I would say such an effort is a short-term release,

If you wish to pursue a heart full of peace.

Don’t limit yourself to salvation in a song,

But seek out igniters that will help you belong,

To the fellowship of you the council of three,

Your Lord, your love, your life need be;

That which you hope, that which you pursue;

Let all others unhealthy with conviction be through.

You see it is simple, just ignite perspective;

With principles in place you’ll become reflective,

On direction, guidance, peace, and purpose.

Because a life without these it utterly worthless.
